Children’s Ibuprofen Recall: What New Orleans Parents Should Check Today

A quick check of your medicine cabinet could help prevent an unexpected health risk for your child.

If you are a parent, you know the drill. It is 2:00 AM. Your little one wakes up with a fever, and you reach for the familiar bottle of children’s ibuprofen. When you are half-asleep and worried about your child, the last thing you want to wonder about is whether the medicine itself is safe. That is exactly why we are reaching out to our New Orleans community today.

What You Need to Know About the Recall

Recently, the FDA announced a nationwide recall of nearly 90,000 bottles of Children’s Ibuprofen Oral Suspension. This recall was issued by Strides Pharma Inc. (manufacturing for Taro Pharmaceuticals) because some parents reported finding a “gel-like mass and black particles” inside the medicine.

The FDA has classified this as a Class II recall. That means using the affected medicine could potentially cause adverse health consequences. While this sounds scary, the good news is that it only affects a specific batch of medication. You just need to know what to look for on your bottle.

How to Check Your Medicine Cabinet

Do not throw away your children’s ibuprofen just yet. Please check the details on the bottle or the original packaging. You are looking for a few specific numbers.

The recalled medicine is the 100 mg/5mL Children’s Ibuprofen Oral Suspension. Please check the lot numbers printed on the bottle. The affected lot numbers are 7261973A and 7261974A [3]. Both of these lots have an expiration date of January 31, 2027

If your bottle does not match these exact lot numbers and expiration dates, it is not part of this specific recall.

What to Do If You Have a Recalled Bottle

If you check your cabinet and find a bottle with those exact lot numbers, stop using it immediately. Do not try to pour it out or use it even if it looks normal. Your child’s safety always comes first.

The FDA recommends returning the recalled medication or disposing of it safely. If you are not sure how to safely dispose of medication, or if you just want peace of mind, your local pharmacy team comes in.
